Cell Structure

Organisms are either one cell (unicellular) or made of many cells (multicellular).

Here are the basic structures (there are more) of an animal and a plant cell.

Often you will be required to name some differences.

animal cell

plant cell

Function of the organelles

The cell organelles are the different parts of a cell. They have different functions.

cell organelle function
cell membrane controls what goes in and out of a cell
cell wall gives plant cells the rigid structure and support
nucleus controls the cell and contains the DNA which contains the building instructions
cytoplasm the liquid within the cell membrane containing the cell organelles
mitochondria create power for the cell
chloroplasts green structures that are responsible for converting sunlight into energy that is stored as glucose
ribosomes -
vacuoles storage spaces within the cell
golgi apparatus
endoplasmatic reticulum
